DEMO SKIS DONE THE EDGE & WAX WAY

Every ski is evaluated by our workshop manager Harry who assesses each ski under very strict conditions. We rank key areas as A,B,C,D. Traditional demo skis sold off at end of season would not even make a D with us, we only sell demo skis that are in very good condition, some UNUSED, and all are taken into our workshop and given a silver grade service by Harry and his team, tuning them to a better-than-new condition.

Every demo ski has been filmed on our precision rail system as close up as we can get, to allow you to see the actual ski you would be receiving. We shoot just one ski, and it is always the one with the most cosmetic marks (If we can find any!) so now, even if you cannot make it to us in our showroom in West Sussex, you can now buy with the confidence that you know what you will be getting, and Edge & Wax attention to detail will mean you will not be disappointed! These videos will be loaded up onto the ski pages as they are edited over the next 24 hours!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

How do you rate the ski quality?
Carefully! Each ski is inspected on its top-sheet, edges, bases and bindings on arrival, and ranked A,B,C,D. An A is almost new, whilst a D means there will be some scratches or nicks. Anything below a D we simply don’t sell! We are VERY strict with our ratings, our customers tell us this. Each ski has a rating, and a table explaining too. And of course you have video too!

Will the bindings fit my boots?
Yes! With the exception of one ski* all of these skis come with either the full production bindings if a system ski, which we will set up for you, or the latest 2014 Marker Griffon or Jester bindings mounted on demo plates. This adds just 20 grams, but allows you to adjust the bindings easily, and is an added bonus for those who might want to have some fore and aft binding adjustment too!
*The K2 COOMBAck which is fitted with the stunning 2014 Tour F12 EPF bindings for boots up to 325mm long – so fine for most people.

Is there a warranty with these skis?
Yes, they are still covered by the standard manufacturers warranty, and our own legendary customer service should something go wrong. Of course cosmetic damage that is already present on the skis and minor wear and tear is not covered, but we have adjusted the price for each individual ski to take account of this!

Can I return them if I don’t like them when I receive them?
If you have not used them, and have simply unpackaged the skis to inspect them, then we will accept the skis back from you and refund you within 14 days, even though these are not a new product, and being sold at a discounted price. We want customers to be happy with their purchase! Please note that there is a collection and restocking charge of £15.00 for doing this. The skis need to be carefully wrapped back up in the original packaging once you have contacted us to explain the reason for return, and we will then arrange a courier collection at a mutually convenient time. If you discard the box, and we need to send one, we do need to charge for this as they are so large and protect the skis, and this is an additional £10 due to needing to ship an empty box by courier! Alternatively you can pop into the showroom, do let us know first so that the manager on duty is aware.

Do I still get a free first service? Will you still wax them as you do new skis and set them up??
Yes, you still get your first edge and wax for free, and we actually do MORE than we do with a new ski sale, giving the skis a SILVER level service in our dedicated professional ski workshop! This alone is worth £40.00

Can I come and look at the skis in person?
Of course you can, our showroom is open 6 days a week in the summer months, so apart from Sunday where we need a rest, you are welcome to visit our store. Click here for contact details and directions.

Can you get more of these skis?
NO! We literally have one set at the listed length, and that is it! The 2014 ski ranges from most companies will be in stock for next season arriving September/October. So it is a great opportunity to save money TODAY for next season, or if you plan to do some glacier skiing or are lucky enough to be heading down under to ski!

Do you offer finance on demo skis?
Yes, we do, we shouldn’t because it costs a lot of money to do, but we do because then you can spread the cost over a few months, and the skis will be all paid for by next season! Our finance is all online, and you can often get an instant decision, and it only takes a couple of minutes to apply. For more information on finance, just click on the button when you are on the ski page, and you can even see the monthly payment and adjust the deposit amount if you wish. Available on individual items or a shopping basket of £400+ in value.

We have managed to get our hands on the latest 2014 Volkl Demo Ski Fleet thanks to the team at Volkl UK, and it is now available to buy with VERY limited availability!

This is not just a pool of old shop demo skis; these skis are from the UK ski industry annual ski test in Khutai, where they were part of an 800 strong demo ski fleet for use in superb powder conditions over 4 days, being skied by ski shop owners, ski magazine journalists and even the odd ski celebrity! As a result they are all in excellent condition!

Edge & Wax are now offering 6 months interest free credit via Moneyway Retail Finance. the service is called Slide It Away.

Slide It Away is a retail finance scheme that allows individuals to apply for loans for the purchase of all kinds of skis, winter sports clothing and related accessories from our wide range of products. 6 months 0% interest finance is offered on all sales over £400.

You can now also apply online thanks to our online service provider Pay4Later.

HOW DOES IT WORK? – NEW ONLINE SERVICE!

If you are a UK customer and wish to apply for interest free finance to purchase goods from us, you can now do this all online:

1) When your basket totals over £400, when you view your basket the 0% banner will show, which you can click on to show a breakdown of your deposit and monthly payment

2) Complete the checkout process as per normal, and when you reach the option to select the payment type select FINANCE

3) A new application window will open. Complete the application which only takes a couple of minutes, and you will be given a decision at the end of completing your details

4) If your application is successful, you will be requested to pay your deposit. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete your order which will then be processed

5) If you are unsuccessful you can close the application window and select an alternative payment method

If you prefer you can also visit us in person at our showroom, or call us on 01403 713 470 so that we can go through the application process with you. Please note that for telephone applications, we will need to send paperwork to you for checking and signing, to be returned to us for approval by the lender. SKI TEST NEWS

We have our new van out at the 2013 Ski test with five members of the Edge & Wax team testing the latest 2013-14 skis and filming over 190 ski review videos.

One of the new features on the ski test van is a QR code on the side of the van. Although difficult to scan the van when Scott is ‘moving swiftly’ along the German and Austrian autobahns, when stationary we have had people scanning the van on the ferry, in a service station car park in the middle of France, and of course on the mountain right next to where we are filming:

Also at this year’s test is store mascot Daisy, who seems to attract more attention than anything we are doing, or the 700 pairs of shiny new skis!

We can arrange a Saturday delivery of your order if placed by 1:00PM Friday 21st December. For items under 2KG there is a £5 surcharge. For items over 2KG and bulky items such as ski poles and skis there is a £15 surcharge.

To make a rental booking with Edge & Wax just follow these simple steps and complete the rental application form below:

Choose the item you wish to rent, we currently rent ski~mojo systems, avalanche rescue sets and GoPro HD cameras.

Enter the period you wish to rent from and to. We AUTOMATICALLY allow 4 days either side to allow for collection or shipping and return. If you do not think you can return the item within 4 days or need it more than 3 days before (including posting time) please adjust the start/end of your rental to take this into account. You will be charged for any extra days. (We have to do this as whilst you have the item we cannot rent it to anyone else!)

Then click on the availability check box and the system will look the item up and tell you if we have it available for those dates.

If you are not collecting the item and returning it personally, you can select “Shipping & Return”, we will shop the item to you 4 working days before the rental start date, and will arrange shipping and return shipping for £15.00. We will include a return shipping label, you MUST use this, and take the item to the Post Office for return. Please also ensure you request a proof of posting, this is free and for your protection in the event of loss.

The Edge & Wax Rental Service is a winter sports product rental service for private individuals. Payment of the rental fee plus any refundable deposit is acceptance of the following terms. Please read these carefully before completing your rental agreement online:

RENTAL CONTRACT
Payment of the rental fee along with any refundable deposit is agreeing to enter into a contract with Bliss Outdoor LTD T/A Edge & Wax

PERIOD OF HIRE
You are required to enter the period of hire when making the booking. The period of hire must be the duration of your trip where you will be using your equipment. We automatically apply a THREE WORKKING DAY window to the start and end of your rental. This is to allow you to collect and return the equipment, or for us to post the rental equipment to the requested address prior to your departure. IF YOU NEED MORE THAN THREE WORKING DAYS TO RECEIVE OR RETURN THE ITEMS YOU MUST EXTEND YOUR RENTAL ACCORDINGLY AND PAY THE RENTAL FEE DUE. This is so that the item you are renting can be booked off our system to prevent someone else booking it

COLLECTION AND RETURN
If you wish us to post the item to you prior to rental, please select the option to have the item shipped. We will then arrange shipping to the address you have entered as your billing address. If you require us to deliver to an alternative address (As a signature is required) please enter this in the additional details box. We will include a returns label to allow you to return the item via your local Post Office. It is VERY IMPORTANT you get a proof of posting as this is your evidence that you have posted the item to us in the event it is mislaid. If you have rented multiple items, we may contact you to arrange a courier collection as this may be more cost effective and efficient.

INSURANCE
We do not provide insurance cover for the equipment. Therefore it is essential that you arrange adequate winter sports insurance cover for YOURSELF and OUR EQUIPMENT.

RETURNING ITEMS LATE & FAILURE TO RETURN
1)Items returned late will be charged at the standard rental fee on a daily basis until returned, if the item is not returned within THREE WORKING DAYS of the rental end date. WORKING DAYS excludes weekend and public holidays. If you are unable to return the item on time, please contact us to advise us on 01403 713 470 as we will need to make arrangements if the item is to be rented to another customer.

Any late fees will be deducted from the deposit taken at the point of making the rental contract.

2) If an item is not returned within TEN WORKING DAYS, you will forfeit your deposit. In addition we will seek repayment of the rented items on the following replacement value basis:

SKI~MOJO SYSTEM - £325 (less your deposit)
AVALANCHE RESCUE SET - £375 (less your deposit)
GoPro CAMERA SYSTEM - £299 (less your deposit)
These are the retail prices of these items as of 26/11/2012 and are subject to change if a price increase occurs.

PRODUCT LIABILITY
By entering into a contract with Bliss Outdoor LTD to rent winter sports equipment, you are acknowledging that you are responsible for ensuring that you are aware of how to use the equipment correctly. We can provide advice upon request, but in using the equipment you accept that you are willing to do so at your own risk, and that Bliss Outdoor LTD cannot be held liable of incorrect use of the equipment or failure of the equipment in the event of an accident or emergency, or for any liability whatsoever related to your winter sports trip.
Winter sports is a dangerous activity, so please ensure you have adequate insurance for both YOURSELF and OUR RENTAL EQUIPMENT before you commence your trip.

Buying A Snowpulse Avalanche Airbag System In The UK

An Avalanche Airbag System is an essential piece of equipment for the regular back country and freeride skier, in addition to a shovel, probe and transceiver. These are becoming more popular every year, so as a stockist of the Snowpulse Avalanche Airbag System we have compiled some useful information for anyone looking to buy an avalanche air bag.

WHY SNOWPULSE?

We have looked at all of the available bags on the market, and even select models within ranges, and we stock the Snowpulse LIFEBAG series. This offer superior head, neck and upper body protection over other models due to the 50 litre airbag surrounding the head rather than popping up behind or either side of the head. In addition, they are designed to firstly fight burial in the first instance. In the event that the user is buried, the Lifebag provides a ‘cocoon’ around the head, trying to create space around the head to give more valuable time for recovery and reduce the risk of suffocation.

The system is easy to arm and disarm, and can be re-used after deployment. The bag is also a technically well designed back country bag, available in 15 Litre (Prorider), 30 Litre (Guide) and 45 Litre (Tour) sizes, all with the technical features you would expect of a premium back pack, manufactured from quality materials.

IS IT DIFFICULT TO TAKE ON THE PLANE?

We are often asked this question. You ideally need to notify the airline at least TWO WEEKS before you fly, and ideally before you book. Most airlines WILL allow airbags onto the plane, but if you arrive at the check in desk and try and organise it there and then, there is a high risk that you will be refused, simply because the check in staff may not be aware of the regulations. An avalanche bag is deemed a SAFETY DEVICE and as such can be carried on a plane with prior permission. Snowpulse supply all the required paperwork advising the contents of the cartridge, and we also have these available for you on the downloads tab on the Snowpulse product pages, or by contacting us.

When we travel with our bags, we do the following, and suggest you do the same:

1) Notify the airline at least 2 weeks before travel, and get an email confirmation that they accept you will be taking this on the flight. There should be no charge for this. A tip from past experience, make sure that you have permission BOTH WAYS. Most people at Geneva airport are lovely, but you might get the one person we met at the check in desk 2 years ago, who almost had us missing our flight! As long as you have done things in advance, for both journeys, it should all be fine.

2) Remove the cartridge, put the cap on the thread, and put the canister in it’s original box. We then wrap around the box a copy of our email, and all the Snowpulse technical information. We put this in our HOLD LUGGAGE at the top. We choose to use the bag as our hand luggage, it is now a normal back pack (It might bleep a bit at the security channel though!) and can be taken on safely.

3) Arrive at the check in desk in good time, present your email and supporting paperwork, and advise the cartridge is in the bag. Some airlines (less frequently) ask it to be carried on as hand luggage, although we have never experienced this. The cartridge is normally viewed, put back in the hold luggage, and sent on through.

If you do not want this hassle, you can rent cartridges in resort. This is becoming more common, and some cartridges between brands are becoming cross compatible. For example the ABS carbon cartridge fits the latest Snowpulse models we have been advised. You can go on the Snowpulse website, in advance and find a local dealer and enquire about renting the cartridge only. This is why we sell the bags on their own, with the cartridge as an option.

UNBIASED ADVICE AT SNOWHEADS SKI FORUM

We are supporters of Snowheads, an independent ski forum which has a variety of useful information amongst a lot of ski banter. They have a ‘sticky’ on their equipment forum giving various pieces of information and experiences of working with the various airlines, which is worth reading through. WHAT ARE THE CARTRIDGE OPTIONS?

There are 2 types of cartridge for the UK customer. There is the lighter sealed unit, which is 300 bar, and is approved for flights subject to prior booking. This is not refillable. Cartridges are light, and are tested by weight them on kitchen scales. The target weight is shown on the cartridge, you simply weigh it and if it is within 5 grams it is fine. Please make sure you test this at room temperature – around 20 degrees,

Alternatively there is a refillable version, which was common until last year. This has a gauge indicating the air pressure instantly. These are heavier, and more expensive, so unless you are looking to refill regularly yourself, the lighter version above is the preferred options.

Internationally there is a 207 Bar cartridge option. You cannot fly with this cartridge apart from on some domestic flights in Canada, so we do not recommend this canister for UK/European customers.

HOW DO I GET REFILLS?

For the sealed cartridge which cannot be refilled, return this to your Snowpulse dealer. A discount is offered off of the price of a new cartridge when returning a discharged cartridge, as these can be returned to Snowpulse/Mammut for recycling.

For the refillable version, you can contact a refill centre locally/in resort to refill your cartridge and change the seals. Here at Edge & Wax we return the empty cartridge and get it exchanged for a cartridge filled by Snowpulse.

PLEASE NOTE You cannot ship air cartridges that are filled by normal post or courier. You need to use a specialist service for shipping hazardous goods. In the UK this can cost between £30-£50 depending on the courier and location.

We have increased the number of fitting bays, doubling our capacity, and now have even more custom moulding stations for Sidas Conformable Custom Footbeds.

The room also houses one of the most extensive ski ranges in the South East, as always, carefully selected by testing the skis before committing to ordering them, so that you can rest assured that we know exactly how a ski performs, and who it is most suitable for.

Hestra gloves are made to last. With some love and care they will last even longer. Good for you, good for the environment.

1) Treat the leather regularly and it will resist moisture, enhance durability and keep the natural leather supple. Moisten the leather a little first with a little water on a sponge if you haven’t just come off the mountain. We then recommend putting a pea sized amount of care balm in each palm, with the gloves on. then rub the gloves together being certain to work the balm between the fingers too. Do this in the evening and the grease is absorbed during the night. For perfect results use Hestra Leather Care Balm. Many models come with a sample of this amazing care product. A pot of balm will keep your gloves supple and water resistant for many, many years.

2) If you have gloves with breathable materials like Gore-Tex, you should avoid silicone based products. It clogs the pores and reduces the material’s breathability. Make sure if using care balm just to treat the natural leather areas. If the balm gets onto non-leather areas wipe it away as soon as possible so it does not work into any fabric.

3) With the carabiner clasp that comes with some models, you can easily attach the gloves to a backpack. In that way, you don’t risk losing them, and they can dry without losing shape. Do leave them in a naturally ambient temperature to dry, NOT on a radiator (See below for drying tips)

4) Dyed leather may stain clothing when wet, so don’t place a wet glove on other garments. Choose a model with a natural leather colour if you do not want to risk bleeding of colours. Remember leather is a natural material, it will discolour. If your white Hestra’s ever turn slightly green, this is because you left them wet and warm to sweat, resulting in a green tint. To avoid this wipe of excess moisture and treat the gloves as above!

5) Gloves rarely get damaged while skiing. Instead, the edges of skis and boot buckles are normally the cause of damage to your gloves. Be careful when handling your skis or boots! The only time we have seen Hestra stitching damaged, has been due to a sharp ski edge, and there are some things a warranty cannot be expected to cover!

Washing & Drying Gloves - 5 truths about washing and drying from Hestra

1) Dry your gloves at room temperature, avoid open flames, heaters, tumble- driers and ovens.

2) Gloves dry best in an upright position. Some models come with a carabiner clasp that, apart from keeping the gloves together, also is useful when drying.

3) Do not turn lined gloves inside out. The liner, insulation and membrane can be difficult to put back into place. We have been there!

4) Gloves with a removable lining dry faster when the liners are removed, and the removable liners are also easy to wash. Dirt clogs pores and fibres reducing breathability. However, wool liners must be hand washed and dried on a flat surface.

5) We do not recommend washing leather gloves frequently. If you do wash them, put on the gloves and wash with soap and lukewarm water. Squeeze out the water gently without twisting. Models without several layers or leather can be machine-washed at 40°C or less.

Edge & Wax Partridge Green is located just south of Horsham, between the A24 (Horsham – Worthing) and the A23 (Gatwick – Brighton). Partridge Green is sign posted from the A24 as you head south from Horsham, and is 1 mile on the left after driving past Macdonalds on the right hand side.

You can also access Partridge Green from the A272 which crosses between the A24 and the A23.

Once in Partridge Green, there is only one main street in the village, the High Street, with the Partridge Pub on the corner at one end, and a mini roundabout that then heads onto the A281 (Henfield, Cowfold) at the other.

If you are coming from the Partridge Pub end, we are the 3rd right, signposted Huffwood Trading Estate, and are straight down the middle. If you are coming from the mini roundabout end of the High Street, we are the 4th left.

Reserving Items At Edge & Wax

We are often asked to hold products for customers so that they can come into the store to collect them in person or arrange collection.

We now offer a reservation service by phone or in-store. In order to reserve an order the following terms and conditions apply:

1) Reservations are only available by phone or in-store
2) A minimum of a 15% deposit is required to reserve and order. You can pay more or in full if you wish.
3) The 15% deposit is NON REFUNDABLE. Any payment made over the 15% deposit will be refunded by the method paid.
4) Any items reserved must be paid for in full WITHIN SEVEN DAYS. We have to put this in place as often in peak season an item could have been sold many times over whilst waiting for a customer to settle the order. After seven days the order will be cancelled, the item returned to stock and any deposit retained.
5) If an item goes up in price whilst on reserve you will NOT be charged any additional money
6) If an item goes down in price whilst on reserve during the seven days we will reduce the price accordingly

Other ways of reserving your order

Our COLLECT AT STORE service is simple and easy, just add the items to the shopping basket as normal, and then at the checkout select the option to COLLECT AT STORE. Remember to enter your billing address as normal. The item will be set aside for you. If the items are skis we will require a small amount of time to set them up and will ask for some data to allow us to do this. If you have your ski boot handy bring this with you when you collect so we can do final checks of the bindings for you. If not we will show you how to make visual checks before skiing. Once a collect at store item is ready, we will contact you to advise you. Collect at store items should be collected within 10 days. If you decide to have the item shipped, please contact us and we can arrange this for a small shipping charge.

Our PRE-ORDER service allows you to get your hands on the latest product fast. Items available for pre-order will have the service offered in the buying options. Please note that with pre-order payment is taken in full. Once the order is received the product is allocated on our system, and the moment it is delivered from the factory we process the order and ship immediately
